As part of the Speak Science discussions, a conversation on the future of quantum technologies took place on May 11, 2023, exploring their potential to revolutionize numerous fields. Professors Dr. Rok Žitko, Dr. Lara Ulčakar, and Dr. Anton Ramšak discussed quantum mechanics, quantum communication, teleportation, quantum computers and simulators, as well as the opportunities that quantum technologies bring to the economy.
The discussion highlighted the significance of quantum communication and the transition to post-quantum algorithms for secure digital futures, the role of quantum computers and simulators in science and industry, practical applications of quantum sensors in navigation, seismology, and neuroscience, and the importance of quantum randomness for secure encryption. The speakers also emphasized the development of quantum science in Slovenia, education in this field, and participation in the European SiQUID project for establishing a test quantum network.
