Lead Research Institution: University of Edinburgh
Between 2017 and 2018, the University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with Kromek, led the Quantum Entanglement Tomography for Enhanced Medical Imaging project. This project developed a new technique to improve the quality of positron emission tomography (PET) images. The technology utilizes photon entanglement, enabling sharper and higher-contrast images, which is crucial for the early and more accurate diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
The new system will allow for more precise and faster examinations with lower radiation doses while reducing costs and scanning time.
