Dr Denis Golež and Dr Ajasja Ljubetič Awarded ERC Consolidator Grants for the Consolidation of Independent Research Careers

Researchers Dr Denis Golež of the Jožef Stefan Institute and Dr Ajasja Ljubetič of the National Institute of Chemistry have been awarded European Research Council ERC Consolidator Grants to strengthen their independent research careers. Within a five-year project, Dr Ljubetič will pursue the development of the first fully artificial protein motor, while Dr Golež will focus on the stabilisation of inherently unstable quantum states.

The research project META-QMS, led by Dr Denis Golež, addresses the fundamental question of how external driving can be used to stabilise systems that would otherwise rapidly decay. The project aims to develop new theoretical tools for identifying and understanding artificially stabilised quantum states, which hold significant potential for future quantum technologies, including quantum memory, alternative sources of coherent light, and ultra-fast electronic switching devices. The project will be carried out at the Jožef Stefan Institute in partnership with the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana, further strengthening the role of both institutions as leading host organisations for ERC projects in the field of condensed matter physics.
