On April 14, we celebrate World Quantum Day, an initiative aimed at bringing quantum science closer to the general public. To mark the occasion, a range of activities is taking place in Ljubljana for high school students and anyone interested in science. World Quantum Day has been celebrated since 2022 at the initiative of researchers. The date, April 14, refers to the Planck constant, one of the fundamental concepts of quantum physics.
The Slovenian Quantum Science and Technology Community (QUTES), in collaboration with the Jožef Stefan Institute, is organizing workshops where participants can learn the basics of quantum physics. They also have the opportunity to visit laboratories and try assembling optical devices.
As part of the programme, a lecture by Prof. Dr. Stephanie Wehner from Delft University of Technology will also take place at the Jožef Stefan Institute. She will present the development of the quantum internet, which, according to her, opens up new possibilities for communication and solving problems that cannot be addressed with classical technologies.
Quantum science explores nature at the level of atoms and fundamental particles and forms the basis for future technologies such as quantum computing, secure communication, and advanced sensing.
